Bobcat golf season kicks off

The Hot Springs County High School Golf Team had their first practice for the spring season on Monday.

The Hot Springs County High School Coed Varsity Golf team has begun practicing for the spring season.

Coach Jake Smith said the spring season helps ready the players for the fall season, which is more competitive.

"For the varsity kids, they're big thing is to set good, solid, attainable goals this spring," Smith said.

"They can then build from the spring for the fall, and become more competitive for a more competitive season. It's a lot about development. We're very much focused on building up for the fall right now."

Smith said every player brings something different to the team and some players have even been researching ways to enhance their performance mentally.

"My top five varsity players have spent the last couple of weeks reading articles about the mental aspect of the game, finding ways around the mental blocks that they have which is huge," he said.

Keeping your head in a competitive space is important, Smith said.

"It's easy to get frustrated when things don't go the way you want them to go," he said. "There's really a fine line between the game itself and the mental aspect of it."

The spring roster includes Hudson Roling, Jake Maksin, Cameron Cole, Eric Herold, Colton Dobbins, Austin Weaver, Jaydon Weaver, Jaxon Davis, Justin Jeffs, Sean Miller, Kaili Johansen, Kaylee Smith, Hannah Hurley, Kristina Nading, Mya Holman, Caleb DeCroo, Logan Bartholomew, Will DeVries, Rebecca Clouse and Ryan Bleak.
