Help Center assists with a little bit of everything

The Help Center at Common Ground, located at 124 N. 5th St., helps individuals with everything from GED tutoring, telephone and internet access, a copy machine, a fax machine and much more.

"What we do is kind of hard to describe because we do it on a case by case basis," Reverend Ron Philips said. "Essentially what we do is sit down with them, have a cup of coffee and discuss what they need help with."

For those looking for work, the Help Center can aid in that process also.

"We can sit down with people, get online and go to Workforce Development and occasionally give them a call," Philips said. "If we know of something else, we'll point them in a direction. More often than not, people don't know how to contact Workforce Development or they're having problems using a computer to access them."

The Help Center can also help with resumes, Philips said.

"We're not a job service but we can help you get there," he said.

Helping someone to get a Wyoming High School Equivalency Certificate is also something the Help Center at Common Ground can do.

" We're not CWC (Central Wyoming College), but we can tutor people in the GED and we fund the testing and the books," Philips said. "Essentially, the GED is free, except for the work individuals are putting into it."

Philips said they have found that several people have gone to different organizations to get help and have not yet found the help they need.

"People should come to the Help Center whenever they have a problem and they haven't found a solution," he said. "We keep building our information base and we do our best to help."

The Help Center at Common Ground is open from noon – 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week.
