When it comes to dinosaurs, their enormous stature sometimes comes to mind.
This little dinosaur is on the other end of the spectrum. Lori, the smallest dinosaur found in Wyoming, was discovered ironically next to the largest dinosaur found in Wyoming. The new species, the size of a magpie, was dug up from a quarry in Douglas, Wyoming. Both specimens were donated to the Big Horn Basin Foundation by the land owner as long as neither specimen leaves the state.
Jessica Lippincott of the Big Horn Basin Foundation took an opportunity to have Lori scanned at the Hot Springs County Hospital with their imaging equipment.
The scans were able to isolate the fossilized bone from the rock and create a three dimensional image. Lippincott's goal is to get a good enough image to create 3-D printed model for display.
The foundation will be bringing in Dean Lomax, a paleontologist from England, to help describe and give the Lori specimen a name. The formal description will be revealed to the public in a formal scientific paper.
