Public meeting set for Tuesday to discuss old airport study grant

With the life of the former Hot Springs County Airport coming to an end, the County Commissioners are seeking public input on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application.

The commissioners are applying for the grant to pay for a study to determine redevelopment options for the former airport.

A public hearing will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at the County Annex at 114 North 4th Street.

The process of applying for a CDBG grant will help offset the costs of the proposed Scope of Work study by GDA Engineers, who planned construction for the new airport.

The Expanded Scope of Work to be undertaken by GDA Engineers will cost $21,000. The county will cover $6,000.

Communities applying for the CDBG grant must meet one of the three national objectives, which are: benefit to low and moderate income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight, and activities designed to meet community development needs having a particular urgency.
