Two Scholar-Athlete nominees

After a rough-and-tumble football season, senior players Eric Herold and Tyler Cornwell still have a lot of which to be proud. The duo, who lit up the field during their final season at Hot Springs County High School, have recently been named Wyoming Scholar Athlete nominees.

The duo, who lit up the football field at the beginning of the school year, are also serious about lending a helping hand in their community, a big portion of the nomination criteria.

Cornwell is currently serving as student body president and often helps with the community group People For People. Herold is a member of National Honor Society and recently returned from a service trip to Costa Rica, where members of the school’s Spanish Club taught English, painted a church, and participated in a cultural exchange with Costa Rican locals.

“We both got All-State, which was nice, and Tyler got Super-25 which was huge, so I feel like this was a good way to end it, not only being recognized for football, but recognized for both [academics and sports] at the same time,” said Herold.

“Its like our hard work paid off,” added Cornwell. “Not a lot of people can say they got it and took the time and did everything.”

Although both students do not plan on playing sports in college, their participation has made a great impact on their high school experience. Cornwell plans to study special education and sports education in college, so he can teach and continue to give back to the community.
