On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Fire department

Thursday, Jan. 14

11:15 p.m. Responded to an accident at mile marker 122 1/2 Highway 20 South.

Sunday, Jan. 17

5:13 p.m. Responded to a structure fire 1118 Canyon Hills Road apartment 4.

Monday, Jan. 18

11:20 a.m. Responded to false alarm at the Hot Springs State Park Best Western.

Sheriff’s department

Thursday, Jan. 14

5:25 p.m. Report of traffic blockage between Highway 120 and Buffalo Creek Road. The traffic began to stack up as crews began to repair a broken water line.

Friday, Jan. 15

10:35 a.m. Report of an unsecured premise on the Carter Ranch Road. The deputy found nothing disturbed, but the owner was contacted and the deputy secured the premise.

2:47 p.m. A resident in the area of Red Lane called and reported that a snowmobile had been driven through their yard. Citations are pending at this time.

Saturday, Jan. 16

3:27 p.m. A deputy provided a jump-start to a stranded vehicle by the wooden park.

Sunday, Jan. 17

2:08 p.m. An abandoned vehicle at mile marker 16 on Highway 120 was tagged to be towed and impounded.

Police department

Tuesday, Jan. 12

3:21 p.m. Report of a vehicle being struck on the right front passenger door during the last two weeks in the area of 100 block of East Park Street.

4:44 p.m. A diaper bag was dropped off at the law enforcement center; the owner came by and collected it.

6:16 p.m. Report of a stolen vehicle, the vehicle was actually repossessed by the dealership.

Wednesday, Jan. 13

12:20 p.m. Request for extra patrol at an apartment complex due to the increase of vehicle traffic.

2:47 p.m. Law enforcement officials received a notice from a repossession company that they are going to repossess a vehicle.

Friday, Jan. 15

12:13 a.m. A GMC vehicle with expired registration in the 200 Block of North 6th Street was cited and would be towed by Jan. 20 if not moved.

1:37 p.m. A resident called and reported that there was an unknown vehicle parked in their driveway with out any plates. Responding officer found the vehicle and driver, the driver stated that they had broke down and would be out of the driveway shortly.

Saturday, Jan. 16

5:15 p.m. Report of two juveniles sending harassing text messages, the responding officer talked to the parents and the messages stopped.

5:30 p.m. Report of a vehicle that had been parked in the high school parking lot that had the paint keyed.

Sunday, Jan. 17

4:23 p.m. Report of some one trespassing in a residence in the area 200 Block of Clark Street, the trespasser ended up being a family member.

Monday, Jan. 18

2:40 p.m. A vehicle moving south on 6th Street collided with a vehicle leaving the Maverick parking lot. No injuries and both vehicle drove away, a state accident report was filed.

8:07 p.m. A small VW Passat was found between Buffalo and Tepee Street in the State Park. The vehicle slid off the road, the driver a minor, was cited for not having a valid drivers license.

Circuit court

Patrick Wurtz plead guilty for possession of controlled substance on Jan. 8. Wurtz received one year of probation.

Steven JJ Jellis plead no contest, Jan. 11. Jellis received 180 days in jail, with 174 suspended and one year of unsupervised probation.

Arthur Wade Grieve was bound over to District Court on Jan. 6 for possession of narcotics and possession of controlled substance. Grieve’ s was bound over to District Court on Jan. 8 for forgery.

Births

Lucas Manuel Cruz was born Friday, January 15, 201, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital to Giselda and Hector Manuel Cruz of Thermopolis.

He weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces, and was 22 inches long.

Grandparents are Abel and Sylvia Canales of San Diego, Calif., and Manuel Teresia Cruz of Porrero, Calif.

Marriage licenses

Dec. 26: John Robert Lewis and Robert William Williams.
