Knights of Columbus fundraiser

Since the inception of the Knights of Columbus in 1882, members of the order have tried to help people who are in dire straits. Originally founded by Father Michael J. McGivney to help low income immigrants in the late 1800s, councils can be found all across the world today, from Canada to the Philippines.

The Thermopolis order was started in 1925. The Knights provide many services to the community including charitable work, donating to Special Olympics, helping senior citizens in need and more.

“If a need for help is there, it is our responsibility to help no matter what religion they are,” said Thermopolis member Dan Fahrenkrug. The 36 member group works out of St. Francis Catholic Church with other parishes to fill the holes when emergencies develop.

The Knights often donate time and trade skills to help out in the community, using many different events from cookie jar raffles to just giving a Christmas tree to a family in need.

After issues are brought forth to the Knights, the members must decide which issue is in need of their attention. The issues the Knights take on must be a group decision. Members want the community to know that they are here to help and they will do what they can to provide. If someone is in need, they can reach out to any member of the Knights of Columbus.

The Knights of Columbus are here to help and make our community a better place. “Helping people in the community is the name of the game,” said Fahrenkrug.

The Knights are currently raffling off four 150 pound portions of beef to raise money to go toward helping community members. The drawing will be held Jan. 26. Contact any member for tickets.
