Variety of activities offered through the recreation district

The first week in January holds a number of important dates for all community members involved with the Recreation District, as both classes and an informational meeting for Armory Building key holders will be held.

Registration for girls youth basketball has been extended until Friday, Jan. 8 in hopes to increase participation. A mandatory parent meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Participants will receive a practice and season schedule at the meeting. Registration for Little Dribblers (kindergarten-1st grade) is $5, Fundamental Skills and Drills (2nd-3rd) is $10, and the Junior Bobcat Division (4th-6th) is $15. Coaches are needed, and any willing volunteers are asked to call the Recreation District office at 864-3767.

For men and women who wish to participate in competitive basketball play, the Recreation District is organizing an adult basketball league, and will hold an organizational meeting on Monday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. at the armory.

Watercize classes, which are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at either 9:30 a.m. or 7 p.m., start January 1 at the Star Plunge in the Hot Springs State Park. Classes last 10 weeks, and registration costs $20. Participants can choose either the morning or evening classes. Registration can be completed through the Recreation District Office or at the Star Plunge.

Finally, for all Armory Recreation Building key holders, an information meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at the armory at 6 p.m. All key holders are urged to attend the meeting, which will cover the district’s transition to an entirely electronic lock system.
