This season of USA Wrestling is set to begin next month, and registration dates have been set.
The program, which has been running since the 1970’s, is run completely by volunteers and provides wrestlers ages five to 16 an opportunity to compete and receive coaching in one of the world’s oldest sports.
Sign-ups will be held on both Jan. 5 and 7 from 5-7 p.m. at the armory. Registration is $55 and includes a t-shirt. Registration after Jan. 31 costs $65. Wrestlers new to the program are asked to bring a copy of their birth certificate to verify their age.
Wrestlers who take part in the program will start practice on Jan. 19 and practice Tuesdays and Thursdays and will travel to tournaments around the state. The season will culminate with a tournament in Casper in April.
This year marks the first that will be coached by the high school wrestling coach CJ Scholl. Former coach Travis McDermott was a participant as a youth.
Many of the local Hot Springs County High School wrestlers volunteer to help coach wrestlers, and are vital to the success in the local USA Wrestling tournament in March.
