Skipper Shipp

Skipper Dwayne Shipp, 58, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis following a long battle with cancer.

Born May 28, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, he was the son of Wayne and Dorothy (McDougal) Shipp. In 1975 he graduated from Columbia River High School in Vancouver, Wash.

Following high school, he and his brother, Steve, started a successful nursery and landscape business in Ridgefield, Wash., which Skip managed until 1993. During that time he married Patti Fell and the couple raised three children. 

In 1993 the family purchased a cattle ranch in Harrison, Neb., and later purchased the Wood River Lodge and Outfitting in Meeteetse, Wyo. Skip moved to Thermopolis in 2002. 

In his younger years he was a member of the Church of Christ. His interests included riding horseback, packing in the mountains and guiding hunters.

He is survived by his parents of Vancouver, Wash .; children, Danyl (Tarrah Harris) Shipp of Bakersfield, Calif., Dusty Shipp of Van Tassell, Wyo., and Jenna (Mark) Stratton of Torrington, Wyo .; brother, Steve, of Ridgefield, Wash .; sister, Sue Shelton of Bend, Ore.;  former wife, Patti Matthews; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Washington.
