Gun club hosts Turkey Shoot

Guns are a hot topic in the media these days. With folks being divided on who should have them and who should control who has them.

Guns are a common accessory in the wilds of Wyoming. Several locals seldom travel anywhere without one.

Between hunting and protection of livestock, or just plain recreation, guns are a staple in the Wyoming lifestyle.

With any form of gun handling it is imperative to know the firearm you are using, safety is a must. There is only one way to gain the comfort level and knowledge to be safe and effective with a firearm; that is through practice and practicing safely.

The Thermopolis Gun Club is such a place to learn and have fun. The local gun club put on a Pre Christmas Turkey Shoot. With many members honing their skills, they were made up of all ages and skill levels. Members attempted to score as high as they could on a multitude of targets.

Card shoot: shooters competed at test of skill and chance at 25 yards (2 Rounds).

Jug Shoot: distance shooting 100 yards and 200 yards with tied scorers shot off at 300 yards.

Shotgun shooting at clays: Test of speed and accuracy. Ending in a tie, resulting in a shoot off.

Turkey Head target: Fun shoot at 25 yards.

With the winners taking home donated turkeys from Reese's and Ray's IGA, two of the winners donated their turkeys back so different competitors could win them in the spirit of Christmas.
