Council approves purchase

The first Thermopolis Town Council meeting for the month of December had all members present.

There was a brief report from the town engineer by Anthony Barnett.

Director of Public Works, Ernie Slagle reported the new snow blower is working fabulously. The town crew spent a day training on the new piece of equipment before using it. The new blower is able to fill a large dump truck within about 2 minutes.

There was a bit of discussion on the distance and power that the blower is able to project the snow as it is cleaning up. Slagle reported the new piece of equipment involves a different approach in how it cleans up the snow; he added there are a few local residents who are having difficulty giving the machine the right away. However, this is a much safer method as to the old way with a large loader backing up repeatedly in the street, explained Slagle.

Assistant to the mayor Fred Crosby reported as Codes Administrator that the new Pizza Hut building construction has had some set backs which will change the finish date of the new building.

With nothing to report from the town attorney the council moved on to discussing the purchase of a new dump truck. At the previous meeting, the opportunity to purchase a new dump truck by piggy backing a bid with the WYDOT was discussed. The only caveat to the deal is that the dump box is separate. After all the extras are incorporated and the new dump box is added the town will save $30,000 on the purchase. The council voted all in favor for the purchase.

Crosby also brought up the old vehicles parked at the town shop which are up for silent auction. The deadline for bids is Monday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m.

Mayor Mike Mortimore explained he would like to give the employees of the town a Christmas bonus. He would like to recognize them for all their hard work. Next year, Mortimore said he would like to have an official function to celebrate with the employees.

The meeting was adjourned for the evening.
