Ruby McQueen Whitaker Bucher, 88, lifetime pioneer resident of Wyoming, passed away November 20, 2015, in Thermopolis.
Ruby was born January 3, 1927, on the Henry Freudenthal ranch on Owl Creek, daughter of Dub McQueen (1902-1955) and Lillian Freudenthal McQueen (1904-2004). She was delivered by grandmother Jeanetta McGraugh Freudenthal. Ruby was raised on the McGirr place on Cottonwood Creek, formally the Camp place. Dub McQueen's homestead was one mile or so west of the McGirr place. Ruby rode horseback to Hamilton Dome, Padlock, and Happy Hollow grade schools.
After graduating from HSCHS in 1945, she married William D. Whitaker in Red Lodge, Mont. William drowned in Sunshine Reservoir near Meeteetse in 1947. Gary D. Whitaker was born of this marriage. In 1948, she married John W. Bucher and they had three children: Donald, Amy, and Allen.
Active as a Girl Scout Leader and Jobs Daughter sponsor, she was also a member of the Eagles and VFW auxiliary. She loved reading, camping, rock hunting, fishing, gardening, and being busy outside. She was an active member of the AHBA.
She is survived by children, Donald V. Bucher, Amy Robinson of Thermopolis, Allen (Alissa) Bucher of Littleton, Colo .; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother; brother, Arley McQueen; husband William Whitaker; husband John Bucher; soul mate Harry (Buzz) Wood; son Gary; grandson Curtis Martinez; and son-in-law, Bruce Robinson.
Memorials may be sent to the Hot Springs County Senior Citizen Center, 206 Senior Ave, Thermopolis, 82443.
Services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. A reception will follow.
