Council approves closure

Tuesday’s meeting of the Thermopolis Town Council was short and right to the point. Mayor Mike Mortimore led the council through the usual formalities.

Several citizens were present to discuss a variety of issues.

Damien Oliver was present for One Eyed Buffalo to address a dispensing change for the restaurant. There was a need to change the verbiage of one of the two liquor licenses the restaurant has. The new change will state they will dispense alcohol from an enclosed room. The council voted in favor for the new change in the liquor license.

Nikki Slagle was present to request to move the Relay For Life from the State Park to down town. She requested a closure for Broadway Street on August 12, 2016. The council approved the request.

Jason Ciz and Donnie Bjorhus brought before the board a request for the town to entertain the idea of the leasing the land the Stones Throw Restaurant sits on to new owners if the building sells in the future. The council agreed in principal to extend the lease to new owners.

Town engineer Anthony Barnett brought up that $4,794.32 was added to the Thermopolis Chip Seal Project. The council voted in favor to pay the extra sum.

Assistant to the mayor Fred Crosby and Town Clerk Tracey Van Huele reported to the council that the renewal for the health insurance for the town would not increase after the review. Van Huele said it was due to the town employees being proactive.

Crosby discussed with the council that there might be a way to get a new dump truck, by working with the state and piggybacking a bid. There is money in the budget for a new dump truck, but this method may end up with a $35,000 savings. They will have to wait on the state to verify that the piggyback bid is legal.
