Lady Cats end season in Lander

The Hot Springs County High School Lady Bobcats traveled to Lander on Friday for the first round of regional play, facing off against second-ranked Kemmerer.

The Lady Cats "came out a little bit flat footed," according to coach Shannon Hill, and lost the first game 9-25. "We picked it up in the second two games and went point for point with them, but unfortunately let them go on runs towards the end of each game which set us back," she said. The Lady Cats lost the second and third sets 16 - 25 and 19 - 25.

Maggie Ryan had 18 digs, while Haley McDermott had 12 digs and Ashlynn Weber had four kills at net.

After the loss against Kemmerer, the Lady Cats were entered into the consolation bracket with Big Piney. "We were pretty well matched with Big Piney but could never get on any sort of run to keep our leads," said Hill.

"We really went point for point at the beginning of each game, but unfortunately didn't have enough balls falling our way to result in a win." The Lady Cats fought hard for four sets, but fell short 20-25 in the fourth to end their season.

Maggie Ryan had another stellar performance with 30 digs, while Breanna Peterson had 18 digs, Ashlynn Weber had 12 kills, and Korey Smith and Mary Ryan both had 2.5 blocks.

"I was disappointed that our season ended the way it did, I am never ready for the season to be over.  However, these girls really did play well and fought hard, it just wasn't our year," said Hill.

"We will miss our seniors and their unwavering work ethic, and we wish them good luck in their future endeavors. Thank you to all of the parents for your support of the program and to the girls for all of your hard work and dedication," she concluded.
