The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat football team ended their season on Friday with a 14-28 loss to powerhouse Lovell in the first round of the regional playoffs.
"The boys played a great game," said coach Rob Anderson. "We started out really strong with the score tied 14-14 at half," but Lovell managed to go into the second half with all the momentum.
"Lovell came out in the second half and controlled the ball and the clock," said Anderson. Lovell was able to add two scores in the second half and managed to keep the Bobcats scoreless in the same period.
Anderson added that he was, "Very proud of the way the boys played," in what happened to be the last game of their season.
All-state senior Tyler Cornwell had another stunning performance in the last game of his high school career, rushing for 191 yards. Cornwell rushed for a total of 1,329 yards this season, averaging almost 150 yards per game.
The Bobcats had an up-and-down season this year, losing the first two home games by a fairly large margin, only to come back and stay alive, winning their last game of the season to send them to Lovell to meet the #1 ranked team in the division. The Bobcats won all three of their games on the road.
The Bobcats will graduate nine players this year, among them star running backs Cornwell and Cody Bjorhus.
