4-Hers honored at year end awards

Hot Springs County's 4-H clubs held their annual 4-H Achievement Night Banquet and Awards Program Sunday to honor members.

Various awards were given in multiple 4-H projects. Community members and the 4-H Council also gave special awards to recipients and introduced nominees for the awards.

Ramsay Owens was awarded the Gwynn Sisters Award among nominees Destiny Harris, Hallie Martinez, Jessica Lutz, Daniel Leonhardt, Dakota Leonhardt and Audrey Axtell.

Barbara Kissel won the Lucerne Valley Community Effort Award. Hunter Bartholomew, Jean-Luc Willson, Remington Ferree, Lexi Overfield, Destiny Harris, Hallie Martinez and Emme Norsworthy were also nominees for the award.

Jason Clouse was the recipient of the Don Tippets Memorial Award. Darren Leonhardt, Jessie Pennoyer, Joshua Muench, Laruen Muench, Hallie Martinez, Owen McCumber, Emme Norsworthy, Luke Dickey, Barbara Kissel and Jessica Lutz were other nominees.

Lexi Overfield was the recipient of the Matt Blakesley Memorial Award from among other nominees Tucker Lake and Barbara Kissel.

Spencer Axtell won the Buchanan Family Memorial Award from among other nominees Hunter Bartholomew, Jessie Pennoyer, Jessica Lutz, Dakota Leonhardt, Destiny Harris, Barbara Kissel and Lexi Overfield.

The Central Bank & Trust Financial Achievement Award went to junior Destiny Harris and senior Jessica Lutz. Eli McCumber, Hadley Johnson, Roedy Farrell, Hallie Martinez and Hardy Johnson were also nominated for the junior division. Jessie Pennoyer and Darren Leonhardt were nominated for the senior division.

The Hard Luck Story went to Lexi Overfield, the other nominee was Jessica Lutz. The Hard Luck Award acknowledges the unforeseen, unfortunate, and unanticipated events that can, and do, occur in life including the lives of 4-H members.

Will Ward was chosen as the Best First-Year Record Book winner from among other nominees Hayden Overfield, Ramsay Owens, Tanner Medvigy and Luke Dickey.

Carson Medvigy & Eli Dickey tied as the winners of the overall Best Junior Record Book award from among other nominees Dakota Leonhardt, Joshua Muench, Lauren Muench, Reagan Seaverance, Hallie Martinez, Emme Norsworthy, Jean-Luc Willson, Hadley Johnson, Lexi Overfield and Hardy Johnson.

The overall Best Senior Record Book award went to Jessica Lutz from among other nominees Jessie Pennoyer, Darren Leonhardt, Daniel Leonhardt, Jules Ward and Barbara Kissel.

Robert Overton received the 2015 Friend of 4-H award. Steve Medvigy was honored as Volunteer of the Year.

HSC Fairboard presented Rate of Gain and Herdsmanship Awards. The Herdsmanship Award was given to members for their care/cleanliness of their animals during county fair. The winners were Barbara Kissel for sheep, Liz Rhodes for swine and Jason Clouse for his beef.

The Rate of Gain is the number of pounds the member's animal gained daily from the beginning project weigh date until weigh in at county fair. Market Beef winners were 1st Place-Jules Ward-2.91 lbs/day, 2nd Place-Melissa Ward-2.85 lbs/day and 3rd Place-Jason Clouse-2.72 lbs/day. Market Sheep winners were 1st Place-Tucker Lake-.79 lbs/day, 2nd Place Tie–Tucker Lake-.73 lbs/day, 2nd Place Tie-Dreama Thorpe-.73 lbs/day. Market Swine winners were 1st Place-Tucker Lake-2.66 lbs/day, 2nd Place-Tucker Lake-2.52 lbs/day and 3rd Place Zoe Adams-2.39 lbs/day.
