Ward brings home state title

Bobcat Jules Ward brought home her second consecutive individual title from the 2A State Cross Country meet in Sheridan on Saturday. The girls brought home second place as a team.

Ward finished the course with a time of 19:12. Ward won her title last year with a 19:15. Her time improved from when she ran a 19:55 on the course in Sheridan during the Michelle Ludwig Invite in September.

Chandra Maddock placed sixth with a time of 21:29. Maddock improved her time substantially from when she ran the course in September with a 24:34.

Ward and Maddock both received All State Honors.

Stacy Lewis showed her resolve by passing three of her competitors just shy of the finish line and placing 19th with a time of 23:47. Liz Rhodes was the fourth and final scorer for the girls team with a time of 25:58 which put her in 33rd place. Kaili Johansen finished 46th with a time of 31:43.

"We beat Wyoming Indian by two points to capture second place. It was an exciting race," said Coach Brenna Abel.

Sean Miller and Adam Hanson both finished strong for the boys team. Although coming into the season late, they both made great improvements throughout the remaining season. Miller finished 32nd with a time of 20:45 and Hanson came in 44th with a time of 21:55. Miller only had five weeks under his belt and Hanson put in eight weeks.
