Hot Springs County Library director Tracey Kinnaman appealed Friday afternoon to the Hot Springs County commissioners for stop-gap funding to cover the library’s overdrafted bank account.
Kinnaman told the commissioners that the library had expended its cash reserves, and the funding issue was not a budgetary one but simply a cash flow problem.
Commissioner Brad Basse agreed, saying of the funding issue, “This isn’t unprecedented, it’s happened before.”
Kinnaman said by June 30, 2016, the library would not be overspending, and asked for $11,000 to cover expenses until then.
The commissioners voted unanimously to approve the funding to get the library’s expenses back in order.
The letter approving the funds will be sent to County Treasurer Julie Mortimore for approval.
Kinnaman added that the library funding will be back on track, “When everyone pays their taxes,” by Nov. 10. The funding is just to cover the months of October and November, for which outstanding bills have left the library staff with its hands tied.
