The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s office has issued a number of Halloween safety tips for children while they are trick-or-treating including:

•Always use good judgment. Obey all laws.

•Young children should always trick-or-treat with an adult.

•No children should go trick-or-treating alone.

•Plan your route and make sure your family knows what it is.

•Wait until your parents have checked your treats before eating them.

•Be cautious. Stay at the doorway of homes and never go inside.

•Only visit houses with the lights on.

•Make sure your costume is not too long and causes tripping.

•If you wear a mask, be sure you can see out of it clearly.

•Make sure you are wearing a flame retardant costume. Don’t play near lit jack-o-lanterns.

•Do not run. Walk on sidewalks or driveways.

•Cross the street at the corners or crosswalks.

•Take a cell phone with you if possible.

•Carry a flashlight or glow stick.

•Make sure your costume or treat bag has reflective tape on it so you can easily be seen.

•Wear shoes that fit and you can walk well in.
