Bobcats need win at Newcastle

Thermopolis is in a position to advance to the class 2A football state playoffs, but the Bobcats must return home from Newcastle on Friday night with a win. Kickoff for the Thermopolis-Newcastle game is set for 6 p.m.

The Bobcats will be focused on getting back on the winning track against the Dogies after losing their last three 2A West Conference games – the latest defeat at the hands of Glenrock with a 27-0 final last Friday at home.

Thermopolis and Newcastle are tied for fourth and fifth in conference standings at 2-3. If the Cats beat Newcastle they will be headed to the first round of the playoffs Friday, Oct. 30.

The Cats had a very difficult time slowing down the Glenrock offense as the Herders scored on their first possession and then consistently throughout the game.

Thermopolis struggled offensively and was held to just 37 years rushing and 0 passing yards. The Cats played well defensively but the Herders just kept converting and moving the ball down the field and into the end zone.

"It was a frustrating game. We are hoping to rebound and get back to what we know how to do this week," said coach Rob Anderson.

The Cats have been fortunate late in the season to avoid injury and stay healthy.
