Astronomy program set for Thursday at county library

Come join astronomer, author and national speaker Dr. Kevin Manning for an evening of “Astronomy for Everyone!” Manning will provide an intriguing, thought-provoking program of exploration into our universe, Thursday evening, Sep. 24, 7 p.m., at Hot Springs County Library.

Manning is a former consultant to NASA and on the Chandra X-Ray Observatory (launched on the space shuttle with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics). He has also worked with ground-based observatories such as Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Manning is known for being able to bring the complicated story of the universe to levels that everyone -- elementary school age students to adult laymen -- can understand. “Astronomy is truly an incredible experience for young and old alike,” he explains. “You are put into the role of a discoverer, seeking out new places never seen before, and are able to venture into realms you could never go to from your own backyard.”

Manning will have a special telescope with him, and attendees will be able to look at the skies through the telescope. There will be time for questions.

The program is sponsored by Hot Springs County Library and is free. Bring your kids or grandkids!
