U.S. Constitution Week is the commemoration of America’s most important document. It is celebrated annually during the week of Sept. 17-23.
The week is kicked off by Constitution Day Sept. 17. On that day in 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed by 39 men who changed the course of history.
Thermopolis Middle School fifth grade teacher Jessie Rode asked her students to write a short paragraph about what the Constitution means to them. TMS fifth graders recently started a unit to learn about the U.S. Constitution.
The Constitution is the law. It determines who dies, lives and who spends jail time. It kept our country running for over 200 years. It helped make our nation what it is today, free, fat and glorious. It withheld when our country was fighting the Civil War, the whole world battling (that one happened twice) and terrorists. The Constitution’s laws held through all of that. It’s worthy to keep our laws and country in check. –Jackson
I believe that we have the right to speak. America has the right to speak too. I also believe in that the country has fair laws. I also believe in that all things are fair. That is what I believe in. –Jaxen
To me it means to be free and grow up thankful for the life I live today. Also, it means to me to have my life and have a happy life. I am thankful to have an education growing up. It means I am appreciative of being free. Next, to cherish my successful life. Lastly, I’m proud to live in a state like Wyoming. –Rhiannon
To me, the Constitution is my rights. It’s my right to speak freely. It’s my right to publish news and ideas. To me, the Constitution is what gives me freedom. It lets my dad have his guns. It’s what give my mom a job. It lets millions of people that work for newspapers have jobs. To me, the Constitution is my freedom. –Karina
The Constitution means freedom. There’s twenty-seven amendments. Only one word covers them all: freedom. Plus, it’s the only reason the Constitution was written in the first place. The Constitution gives us the freedom of speech trial and religion. All in all, the U.S. revolves around the Constitution. –Jonah
The Constitution means that we have a lot of freedom. One of them is a freedom of religion. That means that we can go to any church we want. Another one is freedom of speech. I love that we have a lot of stuff that we can do. There’s freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to own a gun, and many other freedoms. –Eryx
The Constitution means freedom. It means protection for our country. Another thing it means to me is fairness. One of the rights we have that other countries don’t have is free speech. Free speech means we can say anything we want. We can choose any religion. Lastly, the Constitution means to me that the United States became a country and people were free from Britain. –Gauir
What the Constitution means to me is that we have equal rights. I also think it means freedom. It means protection. People are fair now. Hope it stays this way. –Alyssa
