The annual WYO Quarter Horse Fall Sale saw 98 horses sold to 15 different states and three horses sold to Peru on Saturday.
Carole Smith, co-owner of the WYO Ranch, said this Fall's sale was "a good sale," and about "on par with last year's Fall sale." 30 geldings, 35 two-year-olds, eight yearlings, and 25 weanlings were sold. The average price of the geldings was $13,425, the two-year-olds $5,212.86, the yearlings $1,131.21, and the weanlings $894.
The high selling horse, a 6 year-old buckskin gelding formerly owned by Woody Bartlett, was one of three that was sold to Peru and came in at $30,000. The buyer, who has in years past traveled to Thermopolis for the sale, bought this year over the phone.
The top ten geldings averaged $21,600, the high selling weanling sold for $2,300, and the high selling two year-old sold for $14,000.
According to Carole Smith, about 400 buyers attended the auction. Dozens of people attended the Saturday morning preview to watch the horses perform. Twenty-one head of horse were sold over the phone, which Smith said called "a big thing," adding that this number had risen from previous years.
The next WYO Quarter Horse Ranch Sale, the 33rd annual May sale, will be held on May 21, 2016.
