Golfers open strong in tourneys

The Hot Springs County High School Bobcat boys’ golf team opened their season August 20-21 at the Powell Invitational.

According to coach Jacob Smith, the tourney was a great start to the season with each golfer improving from the first day to the second.

“For some it was more an exercise in knocking off the dust and rust of summer, but good debut,” said Smith.

Hudson Roling started his sophomore season strong with a two day score of 159 (84/75).

Cameron Cole (117/88) had a fantastic second day and continues to improve, according to Smith.

Only returning golfers traveled to Powell because it was so early in the season. Other scores include: Caleb Decroo (92/98) 190, Logan Bartholomew (93/87) 180 and Will DeVries (103/106) 209.

Last weekend the team travelled to Worland and saw a lot of 3A and 4A competition.

Roling played well (80/78) to net himself a top ten finish.

“Some of our young golfers came out of the corner swinging at their high school debut as well,” said Smith.

Sean Miller (124/116) and Colton Dobbins (115/111) had strong first performances, shaved serious strokes from day one to day two and showed great promise, according to Smith.

“Kaili Johansen brings her unflappably positive attitude to our girls squad,” said Smith. Johansen (134/126) put up good scores for her first tournament and showed a lot of promise.

Other scores at Worland include: Caleb DeCroo (85/90) 175, Logan Bartholomew (95/92) 187, Jake Maksin (95/93) 188, Will DeVries (116/114) 230, Cameron Cole (113/NS) NS and Kristina Nading (130/113) 243.

The Bobcat golf team heads to Wright Thursday and Friday for the 2A State Preview Tournament.
