Johnson wins golf title

Dedication and love of the game keeps 12-year-old Hardy Johnson on the green.

The young athlete brought home yet another title when he placed 1st in his age division at the Wyoming Junior Amateur Championship held August 8 and 9 at the Rolling Green Country Club in Green River, Wyo.

Johnson started playing golf when he was three years old and his passion for golf has led him to multiple championships – but these wins don't come without sacrifice. Looking up to pro golfers like Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth, Johnson takes the sport seriously and spends hours on the course every day practicing chipping, putting, iron shots, and drives in hopes to some day be as good as his role models.

These efforts have brought reward for Johnson. Over his young career, the athlete has won multiple in-state and out-of-state golf tournaments.

In his most recent win, Johnson competed against the top five golfers in Wyoming ages 10 to 12. Even more impressive, his two Colorado tournament wins have qualified him for the national championship, the Tournament of Champions, held in Scottsdale, Ariz., December 27-28.

Competition is what keeps Johnson going, and competition is what he has coming. He's not afraid of a challenge. In fact, he stated, "how challenging golf is," as one of the reasons he enjoys to play.

Johnson will continue to practice and prepare for the next competition in hopes of bringing home yet another championship trophy.
