Town council finishes city projects

The Tuesday July 21 Town Council meeting concluded multiple projects for the city.

Town Clerk/Treasurer Tracey Van Heule presented the year-end asset deletions which were approved by the board. Van Heule briefly reviewed Resolution 522 regarding Wyoming Retirement contributions and the financial statement, both of which were approved by the board.

A catering permit was approved (pending fair board approval) for Shorty’s during the pig wrestling held at the HSC fairgrounds. The Farmers Market street closure permit for Saturday mornings starting July 25 through the end of September or early October was approved. Arborist Ron Riley presented his five members for the Thermopolis Tree Board that he had presented last April, and requested approval for formation of the board. Riley stated the purpose of the tree board is to educate citizens on tree health and maintenance and to encourage the planting of more trees. Council approved formation of the tree board.

Town engineer, Heath Overfield provided an update on the substantial completion of the town sewer project. Overfield noted there was clean-up left to do, including re-grating gravel driveways and fixing fences, but this work should be done by the end of the week. He felt the project was completed in a timely manner considering the weather delays faced earlier this spring. Council approved the substantial completion report.

Overfield also provided an update regarding the chip seal project which is currently out to bid. An ad was placed in the paper last week and two bids have been received so far.

Fred Crosby brought to the council’s attention that ordinance 802 needed to be amended by adopting 2012 codes to keep the city up to date. Language was changed in the ordinance and was approved by the council with a second reading by town attorney Mike Messenger to be scheduled at a later date.
