Ranch Rodeo is a crowd pleaser

Dust was flying at the 25th Annual Lion's Club Ranch Rodeo last Friday and Saturday nights with nine teams competing for the win. Teams included Rafter C Ranch, B&B Livestock, High Mountain Ranch, Cross T Ranch, Gooseberry Creek Ranch, David Ranch/Lazy Ass's, Butterfield Land & Livestock, Three Geese Land & Cattle, and Nye/Wallingford Ranches.

Friday night started with the ranch rodeo calcutta where spectators could bid on their favorite team. The highest bid of $1,075 was for High Mountain Ranch by Kathy Carlstrom and at the conclusion of the event, Carlstom received the highest winnings from the auction.

Both nights supplied loads of family fun with Relay for Life stands and games, but Saturday night was the highlight with a free pulled pork dinner with the purchase of a ticket for the night's event. Kids had several opportunities to kick up some dust of their own during the ranch rodeo. Both nights featured calf scrambles and mutton bustin' for youngsters to practice their own cowboy skills and, if they were lucky, win a prize.

Competition was fierce as this year teams not only competed for the winnings, but the first place team also won buckles and saddles, the second place team took home jackets, and the third place team received gift certificates.

High Mountain Ranch took first place with a score of 40 points, effectively holding the winning title for two years in a row. B&B Livestock took second place with 36 points and Cross T Ranch took third with 30 points. Other winners for the weekend event were Doug Wallingford for Top Cow Horse for his horse Beau. Chris Hatch from B&B Livestock won Top Hand and Cayde Cuprak with Rafter C Ranch won the Hard Luck award for her wild cow ride.

Ticket sales and donations from the event directly support the Lion's Club and the Thermopolis community. Anyone interested in getting involved in the ranch rodeo or Lion's Club is encouraged to contact Trenda Moore at 921-1902.
