Chamber Board hears report on People of the Earth Days

The Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce had a brief meeting last Thursday evening, discussing the outcome of People of the Earth Days.

According to Barb Heinz, organizer of the event for the chamber, it was a great weekend with a 33% increase in attendance over last year’s maiden event.

There were so many attendees they had to include two whitewater rafting trips and many of the activities had to be broken down into two groups in order to cover everything.

“They are actually asking for an additional one or two days,” Heinz said. “They would like to have an out of town field trip added in.”

People of the Earth Days revolves around a series of books by local authors Michael and Kathy Gear and includes descriptions of not just areas within Hot Springs County, but land in Ten Sleep and other parts of the Big Horn Basin.

Folks would like to see field trips that include some of those areas in the future, which could make the event bigger and better.

The board also appointed a nomination committee tasked with finding a slate of chamber members willing to become board members in the coming year.

The three nominees will be talking with chamber members, both businesses and individuals over the next month in order to bring a list of possible board members to the August meeting.

Final voting for the new board of directors and officers will take place in October.
