Kids' Dig scholarships awarded

Thirteen Hot Springs County children were awarded scholarships to attend a “Local Only” Kids’ Dig on June 12 at the Warm Springs Ranch and Wyoming Dinosaur Center.

Director, Jessica Lippincott, of the Big Horn Basin Foundation collected nominations from teachers at Risen Son Christian School, Ralph Witters Elementary and Thermopolis Middle School. Board Members of the Big Horn Basin Foundation selected the following students to receive the scholarships: Ethan Yarrington, Anthony Sword, Samantha O’Brien, Waikeli Balstad, Kalli Blanford, Kianna Mailloux, Christopher Bapst, Kalebh Nelson, Mari Ford, Jeffrey Lewis, Shariah Moon, Gunner Schepker and Schuyler Young.

The children will collect surface fossils from the Sundance Formation and dig for dinosaur in the Morrison Formation on the Warm Springs Ranch, work in the prep lab at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, and do various paleo-based activities. The children will also be receiving lunch, a t-shirt, water bottle.

The Big Horn Basin Foundation was awarded $1,100 from the Thermopolis Fund for the scholarships.
