The inaugural meeting of a Big Horn River club will be taking place Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. in the Big Horn Federal Bank meeting room.
Anyone interested in anything related to the river, whether it be fishing or keeping the river clean, is invited to attend.
Dick Staiger, who is helping organize the meeting, said there are two goals that the group will start by looking at.
“The most significant one would be to provide a comfortable social environment for the sharing of information regarding the needs and uses of the river and the fishery,” he said.
Another goal currently is to do what is needed to keep the river a clean and productive fishery to be enjoyed by current and future generations.
This is to be done while acknowledging the needs of the beneficial users of the river, including adjoining landowners and agriculture.
During the upcoming meeting Sam Hochhalter, Wyoming Game and Fish’s regional fishery expert, will give a presentation about the history, biology and management of Bighorn Trout Fishery.
The club will also decide on a name, future meeting times and possible project ideas.
Staiger said in addition to participation, he hopes members help steer the goals of the group.
“I hope it takes the form of anybody who’s interested in it,” Staiger said.
He also said the group is something he and Joel Farber had been wanting to start for a while, with the goal of bringing all parties who use the river together.
“The goal is to try and put together a group for people to express their fishing interest and to keep up with what’s going on with the river,” Staiger said.
