Golfers play well, prepare for conference

The High School golf team played another good round of golf this weekend, with the boys team finishing in fourth place at the meet at Wright.

“It was a long bus ride there and back, but it was a great informational trip,” coach Jacob Smith said. “Most of the fall players got their first look at the course that will host State next year. Everyone played pretty well and learned something.”

Smith said the fourth place finish wasn’t bad, but the team was lacking a few key players.

“We were missing a couple of our top players, which can make for a huge point swing,” Smith said. “I don’t expect that to be much of an indicator of performance or results at conference in Casper.”

Caleb DeCroo led the boy’s team in scoring with 92 strokes; Logan Bartholomew followed with 94 strokes; Jake Maksin finished with 99 strokes; Cameron Cole was close behind his fellow golfers with 106.

“I chose not to take players to Wright that aren’t going to be golfing in the fall,” Smith said. “It is a nine-hole course and the fewer extra golfers we had the better.”

Kristina Nading was the only female golfer to compete in the event, finishing with 125 strokes.

“We should have 4 girls for conference and for the Lander tournament,” he said.

Hot Springs County High School golfers head to Lander this Friday for the last meet before the conference tournament.
