On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Tuesday, April 14

11:31 a.m. Deputies received a report of a possible scam. Someone had called and told the person they had defaulted on a loan. The caller warned that the person would be served.

3:16 p.m. deputies received a report from Skelton Road that someone may have caused damage to another party’s irrigation pipe. The incident is still under investigation.

5:29 p.m. David Dooley, 60, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for child support.

7:46 p.m. Deputies received a report of a violation of a temporary protection order. A person made phone calls to someone they were not supposed to be calling.

Wednesday, April 15

12:22 a.m. A blue Ford Taurus was seen driving all over the road, almost hitting a guard rail and was reported to local law enforcement. A deputy caught up with the vehicle and pulled it over.

Jesus Deniz Rodriguez, 62, was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving.

5:17 p.m. Gerald Bilger, 33, was arrested on a warrant for violation of a protection order.

Thursday, April 16

12:14 a.m. A traffic accident occurred on Highway 120 West, just a half mile from the Gooseberry rest area. The driver was trying to avoid a large chunk of ice that had fallen into the roadway and ended up in a ditch. No one was injured, but the driver was cited for driving with expired plates.

Friday, April 17

5:41 p.m. Deputies received a report of a possible drunk driver near mile marker 130 on Highway 20 South. A deputy caught up with the vehicle but did not feel the driver was violating any laws.

Saturday, April 18

7:56 p.m. The Sheriff’s office received a report of a dark colored Honda parked outside of a residence for a long period of time. The Honda drove off when a neighbor came outside to lock her doors.

10:33 p.m. Deputies received a report of suspicious activity on Red Lane. People were seen walking around a vehicle with flashlights. The vehicle was parked on private property. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found that the people with flashlights were trying to jump their car so they could head home.

Sunday, April 19

11:09 a.m. Deputies got a call from a person at a pool in the state park. She advised that two men appeared to be casing vehicles in the park.

Monday, April 20

7:53 p.m. Someone reported a vehicle for possibly being driven under the influence. When a deputy caught up with the vehicle the driver was warned for improper lane use.

Tuesday, April 14

8:35 a.m. A phone scam was reported to the police. The scam involved bill collectors calling about a payday loan.

12:18 p.m. A car accident occurred in the Blair’s parking lot. A parked vehicle came out of gear and rolled into another parked vehicle. There were no injuries as the vehicles were both empty.

2:33 p.m. A person reported that their vehicle had been vandalized. Two of their taillights were busted and two tires were flattened.

6:39 p.m. A call was made to the police that teenagers appeared to be smoking marijuana in the state park.

9:04 p.m. Someone called the police because they had just finished talking to a relative who was upset about an ex-girlfriend who lives locally. They wanted the police to know that if the person came to town it could mean trouble for the ex-girlfriend.

10:37 p.m. Police were called to the 800 block of Washakie. There they made contact with the reporting party. The female said she and her boyfriend had been drinking and arguing. They agreed to separate for the night.

Wednesday, April 15

4:44 p.m. A business owner reported theft of materials from around his shop. Ladders and aluminum wire were stolen. Police are still investigating.

Thursday, April 16

11:44 a.m. Nicholas Homyak was cited for possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

4:44 p.m. Deputies found a Kansas drivers license. The license is in the process of being returned to the owner.

5:44 p.m. Police assisted Probation and Parole with a compliancy check. A probation and parole agent found a box containing marijuana paraphernalia, but it was unclear to whom the paraphernalia belonged.

Friday, April 17

2:16 p.m. A person reported their bike stolen after riding it to Las Fuentes.

3:12 p.m. A highway patrolman was driving through the state park and saw teenagers trying to hide something. When an officer arrived they found teenagers, but it was unclear if it was the same group.

5:17 p.m. Police were called about a dispute between a father and a son. The two separated for the night.

Saturday, April 18

3:42 a.m. Someone called the police because they saw vehicles in the parking lot of a business and there aren’t usually vehicles parked there at that time.

3:36 p.m. A person at a restaurant found the words “help me” written on a children’s menu. Police located the people and found nothing was amiss.

Monday, April 20

10:30 a.m. Someone had spoken to someone else and the first person thought the second person needed help. The second person was having relationship issues. Police spoke to the couple and asked them to separate, but the second person did not want to separate.

2:12 p.m. Someone saw scaffolding on a roadway near the middle school. Police contacted an owner of a construction business who moved it and is keeping it for whomever the owner is.

8 p.m. Someone was playing the music in their car too loud and police were called.

Circuit court

Gerald Bilger was given a bond of $1,000 cash following his arrest for violating a protection order.

April 3 – Robert Stanley Plewinski, 68, and Tonyia Lynn Toner, 51.

April 9 – Kenneth Bruce Smith, 52, and Christin Cherie McGowan, 34.

Bike thief

Police are looking for a possible bike thief.. In the past two weeks, four bikes have been stolen from both private and public property around town.

Police chief Steve Shay said it is unlikely to be more than one thief.
