Abel named Teacher of the Year

Several teachers were honored Monday night at Hot Springs County School District #1's Retiree and Teacher of the Year Banquet at the middle school.

The district will be losing six long-time educators at the end of the year, all of which will be difficult to replace considering their longevity with the district and years of educational experience.

Those retiring this year include Janet Philp, Kent Hessenthaler, Madonna McIntosh, Jim Cramer, Deb Law and Ron Philips, who has already taken his retirement as of the middle of first semester.

The Teacher of the Year award is chosen from among the educators chosen as Teacher of the Month throughout the year.

That short list includes Anna Wassing, Jake Smith, Kristin Ryan, Jody Kummerfeld, Aimee Kay, London Jenks, Cassie Hetzel, Jackie Frankson and Brenna Abel.

At the end of the evening, Superintendent Dustin Hunt announced Brenna Abel as this year's Teacher of the Year recipient for Hot Springs County.

Abel will now be entered in the statewide competition for Teacher of the Year for Wyoming.
