FFA students perform well at state convention

Thermopolis FFA students returned from the 2015 Wyoming State FFA Convention in Laramie and Cheyenne this week with awards for their work.

Thermopolis students competed in meats evaluation, livestock evaluation, agricultural sales, and the farm business management career development events (CDE); students also competed in the Greenhand Quiz Bowl.

Thermopolis FFA advisor Britton Van Heule said the students did a great job.

“Everyone did super well, and are improving on their skills,” VanHeule said.

Emmie Coyne, Tyne Vialpando, Kaitlyn Schmuck and Sasha Bleak competed in the agricultural sales competition and finished in 14th place out of 19 teams.

Keegan Waller, Logan Bartholomew, Sasha Bleak, Clare Denney and Ryan Bleak competed in the meats evaluation and placed 12th out of 42 teams.

Dreama Thorpe, Jessie Pennoyer, Taylor Nuttall and Katlyn King finished in 27th place in the livestock evaluation out of 41 teams.

Tyelynn Myers, Liz Rhodes, Taylor Nuttall and Clare Denney did the Farm Business Management test and finished in ninth place out of 17 teams.

Rebecca Clouse, Kaitlyn Schmuck, Keegan Waller and Clare Denney competed in the Environmental and Natural Resources contest and finished in 11th place out of 23 teams.

Tyne Vilapando, Emmie Coyne, Rebecca Clouse and Kaitlyn Schmuck placed 7th in the Greenhand Quiz Bowl out of 19 teams.

The State FFA Convention is the culminating event for the Wyoming FFA, complete with awards, competitions and leadership development events.  With more than 1,500 FFA members from across the state in attendance, it is one of the largest youth conferences in Wyoming.
