The seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams went up against Worland and Lovell this past week. In the eighth grade matchups against Worland, the Bobcats came away with a 54-13 loss for the A team and a 34-18 loss for the B. Starting a busy week, Thermopolis wrestlers journeyed to Cody on Tuesday for a dual. Though the Broncs started with a lead at 16-9 on a couple of pins and a decision, the dual became much more interesting for the Bobcats when Jon Harvey put a brake on Cody's momentum with a first period pin of his own over the Broncs' Keaton Stone. The Lady Cats competed against Shosoni, Powell and Lander over the weekend at the Big Horn Basin Tournament hosted by Powell. The varsity team came out on top of Shoshoni on Friday with a 38-19 win. Sesi Jensen lead the team in scoring, dropping in 10 points while Tahja Hunt helped the offense with three assists. As a team, they had a total of 10 assists. The Thermopolis Wrestling Club competed at the Eastside Wrestling Tournament in Casper on Sunday, Jan. 13. In Division 6U 48-51, Bain Lahoe placed fourth. The high school boys basketball team came away with a 0-3 record as they took on Big Piney, Pinedale and Lyman this past weekend at the East/West Classic at Rawlins. Thermopolis wrestlers opened 2019 at the Shane Shatto Memorial Invitational in Douglas on Friday with 23 other teams. The Bobcats were in a tight knit group of five teams separated by five points in 15th place with 68 team points. The tournament hosted nearly twenty 3A and 4A schools including two Nebraska schools - Alliance and Chadron - as well as Castle Rock, Colorado. The freshmen boys basketball team came home with a 47-37 victory after facing Lander on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Coach Dean Despain stated, “Tuesday’s game against Lander was exactly how we should play and how I expect that group to play on a nightly basis. The Thermopolis Wrestling Club is getting geared up for its 2019 season, and as of last Friday there are about 30 kids registered. Thrisha Myers stated she expects to see the number of kids closer to 45 by the beginning of the season and registrations are still open. Kids must turn four or be older in 2019 to be able to wrestle, and the club is open to both boys and girls. A parent night will by Jan. 8 at 6 p.m., at the middle school. The Lady Bobcat basketball team had a very successful weekend in Burlington with both the JV and varsity teams coming away with wins. Coach Matt McPhie said the varsity girls played very tough defense, forcing 29 turnovers and playing at a high level defensively. Thermopolis wrestlers started their season at the Powell Invitational Friday and Saturday on a high note. The twenty-team tournament featured an all-class make-up, and was led by Casper Natrona. The real story for the Bobcats though was leading all class 2A teams with 112 points and nine wrestlers in the top six of their weight bracket. The Lady Cat basketball team opened up season play this past weekend at the Coal Miner Classic in Wright.
