  • Birdsley heads to Wisconsin to show her strength

    Thermopolis resident Porshia Birdsley has qualified to compete at the Official Strongman Games held at the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum in Madison, Wisconsin. The event runs from December 5-8, with Birdsley scheduled to compete in the womens 161 lb. class. Our local VFW will be airing the competition at Post 2281 on Friday and Saturday. At this national festival of strength, Birdsley will be competing against strongwomen from around the world.   • Middle school wrestlers to host conference

    The Hot Springs County High School gym will be packed on Saturday for the Big Horn Basin Middle School Athletic Association Conference Wrestling Tournament. Weigh-ins are at 8 a.m., a seed meeting will be held at 9 a.m. with wrestling action kicking off at 10 a.m. The event will feature both “A” and “B” brackets for the boys and an “A” division for the girls.     Last Thursday, the Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team hosted a quad with Lander, Riverton and Worland. Thermopolis dualed Lander first posting a record of 21 wins and 11 loses. Their final dual was against Riverton, winning 16 out of 22 matches.     Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team members saw back to back action last weekend with the Herder Middle School Duals in Glenrock on Friday and the Worland Invitational on Saturday. In Glenrock the Thermoolis boys team placed 3rd in Pool B and 5th place overall. Girls were able to participate in a number of exhibition matches.     The Lady Cats varsity volleyball team competed at the 2A Regional Championships in Lander on November 1 and 2 last week and punched their ticket to the 2A State Championships in Casper this week. On Friday, the Lady Cats played Big Piney – who had finished the regular season in second place in the 2A Southwest. Playing with determination and skill, the Lady Cats swept Big Piney in three games, winning 25-13, 25-20 and 25-15.     Capping off an outstanding cross country season, two Bobcat harriers finished in the top ten at the 2A State Championships in Cheyenne and for their efforts each received All-State Honors. After finishing in second place at regionals, outstanding junior Jadeth Elder was proclaimed state champion, finishing the course with a time of 17:43.80.     The Bobcat varsity football team loaded on the bus early last Friday, October 11 for a four plus hour ride to the Bridger Valley of Wyoming.
