    The Bobcat wrestling team competed at the Powell Invite on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14. The team finished fifth out of 22 teams. Bobcats went 15-1 in varsity pool competition with four division champions. Remington Ferree at 285, Logan Cole at 220, Riley Shaffer at 182A, Cole Christiansen at 182B came in first during pool action and Roedy Farrell at 145 finished second.     The Bobcat boys basketball team started their season with a 2-1 record this weekend taking on Big Horn, Wright and Kaycee on the road. Head coach Shane Corpening said their first game was a great measuring stick as to where the program is at. “Big Horn has a solid basketball program and they always have good athletes,” Corpening said, “so the fact that we were able to grind out a win is huge for our program and an excellent start to our season.” The game was neck and neck all the way to the buzz...

    The Thermopolis Lady Bobcats varsity girls had an excellent start to their season coming out of their first tournament with three wins. They first took on Kaycee on Friday, topping them with a steady 46-27. “The team played good defense while recording 28 steals,” head coach Matt McPhie said.     The Big Horn Basin Middle School Wrestling Conference was hosted by Thermopolis on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Thermopolis High School.     The season has come to an end for the B teams of Thermopolis Middle School as they had their tournament last Saturday. The seventh grade B team traveled to Lander and came home with three wins, topping Worland 19-18, Powell 25-22 and Lander 27-6. Kali Simeral had the high points against Worland with eight, against Powell with 17 points and against Lander, too, with 13 points.     Team Owl Creek was crowned Hot Springs County Recreation District Adult Volleyball Champions after defeating Gassed by Gottsche in some intense action. Gassed by Gottsche won the first match 18-25, 23-25 and 25-12 so in the double elimination tournament they had to play again. Owl Creek then won 18-25 and 14-25.     Thermopolis’ Middle School girls basketball teams went into the Thanksgiving break with games against arch rivals, Worland. The eighth grade teams played on their home court with the 8A team holding Worland to just six points in the first quarter.     The Bobcats fought a tough battle against the defending state champs Friday night in the 2A Wyoming High School State Football Semifinals, but in the end, Buffalo proved too strong.
