    The Lady Cats basketball team had a challenging week facing off against Worland, Rawlins and Glenrock with a 0-3 finish. Tuesday the ladies fell to the Lady Warriors, 60-50, but they battled tough after trailing in the first quarter, 18-4. They went into the half trailing by just five points, 29-24.     The Bobcat girls varsity basketball team kicked off their season last weekend with three games on the road, Torrington, Burns and Wheatland, coming home with a 1-2 record. The Lady Cats lost to Torrington on Friday by a final score of 59-40, but they played a good first half, taking a 25-26 lead going into the locker room.     The Bobcat boys basketball team was on the road over the weekend, splitting their wins and losses between Torrington, Burns and Wheatland, 1-2. Against the Torrington Trailblazers, the Bobcats played really well at times and not so well at other times according to coach Shane Corpening.     Hot Springs County High School Bobcat Wrestlers opened their season in Wheatland last Friday. Eleven eligible wrestlers competed in three duals. There were seven wrestlers who were not eligible due to not having attended enough practices. “We could definitely see the advantage the other teams had by starting practices on time,” said coach Travis McDermott.     Hot Springs County High School’s speech and debate team participated virtually in the Cheyenne South Bison Stampede tournament last weekend, bringing home first place in 1A/2A. The team took the Sweepstakes award a full six points ahead of number 2, Niobrara. Topping the list of winners was junior Jean-Luc Willson who placed second in varsity extemp.     Thermopolis Bobcat Football recently announced team awards for the 2020 season. Most Improved Player of the Year honors went to Eli McCumber. The pair named Scout Team Players of the Year were Eli Dickey and Jessen Basse, and Hustle Player of the Year went to Elijah Skelton. Roedy Farrell was named the Defensive Player of the Year while Remington Ferree nabbed the Offensive Player of the Year award. Logan Cole was named Most Valuable Player of the Year.     The Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team has had a tremendous start to their season, winning 70-percent of their matches in five duals. “Not only is this a confidence builder for the athletes on the team,” head coach Toby Emery said, “but their hunger to learn has increased as well.     The Bobcat boys and girls Cross Country team had a rough time at their State meet in Douglas last weekend.     The Lady Bobcat cross country team pulled together at their conference meet in Lovell this weekend to come home as conference champions.
