The 5th grade boys traveling basketball team won the Powell Jamboree last weekend. The boys went 4-0 on the weekend and were able to secure the championship with a 24-20 victory over the Billings Valor. The Lady Cats varsity basketball team traveled to Pinedale last weekend for tournament action. On Friday, the Lady Cats played the Lyman Eagles, ranked #2 in 3A. “Lyman has a strong program and has always had great shooters on their team” said coach David Villa. Last weekend the Bobcat wrestlers traveled to the Shane Shatto Memorial tournament in Douglas. The boys team ended the weekend tied for 10th out of 29 teams. “This is one of the toughest tournaments of the year and we competed well. Coming off of Christmas break the wrestlers that competed looked good and competed against some high caliber wrestlers,” said coach Travis McDermott. The varsity boys basketball team competed in Rawlins last weekend at the Winter Classic. The Bobcats won 48-42 against Lyman on Friday. Saturday, the Bobcats fell 54-51 in a close game against Rawlins. Later in the afternoon they lost to Pinedale 75-54. No coaches comments or game information was received from coach Shane Corpening. The Bobcat wrestlers varsity team was in action at the Battle of the Big Horns dual tournament in Worland over the weekend. The Bobcats had a great Friday in pool matches going 2-1 overall. "We only filled seven of the 14 weights which makes it even more impressive. We did have 3 other weights filled by extra wrestlers from other teams but our kids did the heavy lifting. On Friday, December 16, the Lady Cats varsity basketball team traveled to Glenrock High School. “Our scouting report would be to focus on stopping #23 Sarvey who had been averaging over 22.7 ppg and clearly their best player. The varsity boys Bobcats traveled to Glenrock last Friday to take on the Herders, pulling out a win in a close 70-63 game. On Saturday, the boys travelled to Buffalo where they lost to the #5 ranked Bison with a final score of 84-71. At press time, no coaches comments or information was received about the games. Four members of the Thermopolis Wrestling Club competed at the 2022 WAWA Middle School State competition in Gillette last Saturday. The Bobcat Wrestlers started their season at the Powell invitational last Friday and Saturday with over 500 wrestlers competing. This was by far the largest that this tournament has been with teams from Wyoming and Montana competing. Friday the boys competed in pool wrestling trying to make the bracket on Saturday for placing. The Lady cats started their season last week at Torrington High School. Coach David Villa said, “We knew we would be facing a feisty team from last year. This is the first year that girls wrestling is sanctioned in Wyoming and the Lady Cats will have four girls that will be making history all season long. Last year Wyoming had under 50 girls wrestling a mixed season with boys. This year, during weight certification, the state has over 200 girls registered. Last Saturday, the Thermopolis Middle School Bobcats hosted the Big Horn Basin Middle School Conference Wrestling Tournament at the high school gym. Of the 10 Conference teams and 215 wrestlers, seven "A" division TMS wrestlers battled their way through the all-day tournament and earned a 3rd place team victory. Bobcat football players Jessen Basse, Del Dukes, Roedy Farrell and Gavin Shumway have been named to the all-conference football in Classes 2A West. These honors are voted on by the coaches in their respective conferences. These are done according to conference by-laws. Last Thursday, the Thermopolis Middle School wrestling team hosted a quad duel with Lander, Riverton and Worland. To start the night out, the Bobcats won thirteen out of twenty-two matches against Lander.
