This past weekend saw the Thermopolis Middle School eighth grade "B" team emerge the champions at their home tournament. Coach Shane Corpening stated in their first game against Lander the boys jumped to a 19-10 lead in the first half thanks to a strong defensive second quarter. The Lady Bobcat's varsity basketball team had a rough time in their game against Worland's Lady Warriors last week, ending the night with a 27-51 loss. The Hot Springs County Rec District Adult Co-ed Basketball League saw its second round of games on Feb. 7. Carquest took on Merit, with Merit coming out on top with an 80-31 victory. The Greybull Invitational eleven-team tournament included super 2A power Moorcroft who ran away from everyone with a 250 point total, more than 100 points more than second place Cody followed by Lovell, Powell and a tie with Lander and the Bobcats at 107 points. Last week, a few kids in the Thermopolis Wrestling Club attended the Rocky Mountain National Tournament in Gillette. Intermediate wrestler Cannon Boren, in Weight Class 74, placed second. Though schoolboy wrestler Ty Peterson, Weight Class 78, wrestled hard he did not place. Registration is now open for the Hot Springs County Recreation District Smart Start Sports program. The program is offered for all kids ages 3-5, for basketball, soccer and baseball. It is a noncompetitive one-on-one with the child’s parent, focusing one developing fundamentals of each sport to teach the basics of each sport. Parent participation is required for the program. Friday night's game against Rawlins was much different than the Thermopolis Boys Basketball team was expecting, Coach Kevin Gerber said of the Bobcats' 60-19 loss against the Outlaws.
