Fourteen Bobcat wrestlers journeyed to Wheatland last Friday with state tournament qualifying on their mind, and nine of them got the task done. “These guys were awesome,” praised Coach Scholl. “Getting nine qualifiers on a primarily sophomore and freshman team, especially at the 3A level with teams like Powell, Douglas, and Worland is an indication that our kids put forth a maximum effort. Two of our guys (Austin Ireland and Riley Shaffer) achieved results totally unexpected. Koy (Myers) overcame the pain of an injured elbow to record three...

Gerber noted among the Outlaws is a player who measures about 6'7" or 6'8" and was tough to go up against. It...
The Lady Bobcats had a 58-51 win on the road Friday as they took on the Lady Outlaws in Rawlins. Coach Cory Sova said the girls were down by 10 late in the third quarter, but didn't panic and didn't give up, deciding to work their way through one play at a time. "There was no blame for digging the hole," Sova said, "we just had to keep playing hard and doing the little things better." They had a quick run against the Lady Outlaws toward the end of the third quarter, out scoring them 8-0 before... Full story

Coach Ryan Shaffer noted the boys didn't start off the greatest in the Greybull match-up, with a lot of bad shots, many of which happened when they were wide open. The end result was only 12 for the Bobcats in the...
The Thermopolis Middle School wrestlers saw action on the mats at Riverton Saturday during the Spartan Invite. The boys came away with 74.5 team points. Coach Toby Emery stated, “The Spartan Invite is always a tough tournament with new competition. All of the boys wrestled tough, but we had a couple wrestlers really step up to the challenge. Eighth grader Logan Cole dominated his we...

Things started rough for the boys on their home court, with a 72-39 loss to Worland. Coach Kevin Gerber noted Thursday was Senior Night, and had mentioned previously some might think of it as a distraction but he believes it is a good one to have. His philosophy is when the seniors have spent the time being on the team and given a lot of their time to... Full story
With duals against both Lovell and highly rated Glenrock Thursday and Friday, the Bobcats faced a sizable challenge; especially with the effect of the local flu-bug and injury. It was not unexpected that the Bobcats would not be at their best but there were bright spots in both duals though the 'Cats were on the short end of 39-30 and 59-21 scores. Against Lovell, Michael Harvey (170 lbs.) started the Bobcats off with a narrow one point victory, 8-7, while giving up three takedowns. Harvey...

Once a year nearly all the high school wrestling programs in Wyoming send their teams to Riverton for the state’s premier all-comers event – the Ron Thon. Last weekend, 13 Bobcats competed in the tournament along with wrestlers from 47 other teams. Two facts became abundantly clear. A big program does not require a big school as witnessed by 3A’s Star Valley winning the tourney by 30 points, and 2A’s Moorcroft placing 3rd. The Thermopolis wrestling program is on the way up as witnessed by the 8th place finish in the JV side of the tourney...
