With just a few games left on their schedules, coaches for the Thermopolis Middle School basketball teams spoke about the 2016 season. Shane Corpening, the coach for the eighth grade boys, said the improvement through the season has been great to see. The Hot Springs Recreation District Turkey Hoop Shoot has been rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 8 at the armory. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7 p.m. Parent participation is required. Children second grade through age 15 can participate. About 90 boys are taking to the court Monday nights at Thermopolis Middle School, as part of the Hot Springs County Recreation Department's basketball season, which began Nov. 14. The Lady Bobcat volleyball team finished their season last weekend at the regional tournament in Rawlins. First thing Friday morning the girls faced the Lady Bearcats from Douglas. The Cats dropped three straight games, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-13, sending them into Saturday play. The Hot Springs County High School Cross Country finished their season Saturday, at the 3A State Championships in Sheridan. The girls team brought home a second place finish with 80 points; Star Valley took first with 58. Jules Ward came in at under 20 minutes for the course, with a second place finish of 19:17.92. However, the points came late in the game, and weren't enough to match the 50 Newcastle put up in the first half. The Thermopolis Bobcats Football team lost while on the road in Big Horn last Friday, 53-8, bringing their record to 1-5. Last week, Coach Matthew McPhie noted the Rams were a physically big team.
