Dana Bjorhus teamed up with professional golfer Bill Haas to win the British Open Pick A Pro Tournament held July 16-17 at the Thermopolis Golf Course. Eighteen holes were played on both Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the British Open PGA tournament in Scotland. Friday evening saw three inductees into the Bobcat Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was established in 2006 as a way to recognize the many great athletes, coaches, teams, administrators and community members that have been a part of Bobcat athletics over the years. A Popsicle Night for the Tee Ball players is scheduled for June 30, beginning at 6 p.m. at the baseball fields. On Saturday, June 11, Hot Springs County High School graduates KinDale Andreen and Tyler Cornwell participated in the 43rd annual Shrine Bowl. Andreen said the experience was an awesome one, and she enjoyed having one last game. Seventh grader Logan Cole shattered a nearly 40-year-old record in the Long Jump this school year, with a distance of 17’ 7.75”. The previous record of 17’ 3” was set by Jon Lesher in 1977. There were quite a few records broken by the Thermopolis Middle School Track and Field, which ended their regular season on May 7. The Hot Springs Recreation Department baseball program started practice last week, with their first session on May 31. There are a total 58 signed up this year, with 17 in the Majors, 17 in the Minors, 18 in Coach Pitch and six in the Start Smart. Recreation Director Brad Morrison explained Start Smart is for three- to five-year –olds, and involves parents attending one day a week with their kids. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the parking lot at Hot Springs County High School was a place to be for the Hot City Summer Slam 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Though Thermopolis has hosted the tournament a number of years, 2016 marks the first time it was headed up by the Bobcat Boosters. Eight boys and eight girls from Hot Springs County High School traveled to Casper to compete at the Track and Field State Championships May 19-21. Coach Ernie Mecca commended both teams for making a tremendous effort during the three-day meet. The boys' team won runner up, taking a total 83 points, and made 11 personal records, one state record and two school records. It was another weekend of broken records and high scoring for the Bobcats, as they competed at the Regional Track Championships in Lander last Friday and Saturday. The boys team came home champions, winning with a total of 124 points. Tyler Cornwell was presented the Winford Mower award during the regional track meet.
