A weather delay of Friday night's Homecoming game didn't stop the Hot Springs County Football program from taking a 34-20 victory over the Moorcroft Wolves. Though the summer’s rodeo and demolition derby events have come and gone, and the Gymkhana series has finished for the year, Hot Springs County Fairgrounds will still see plenty of activity in the coming months. The Wyoming Sorting Association will still have an event the second weekend of each month, with the season kicking off Oct. 13-15. Hot Springs County High School Football opened conference play with a game against Wheatland Friday night. Coach Matt McPhie said the boys played a good team and lost 35-14. “We came out and started strong taking an early lead 14-6 in the first quarter,” McPhie said, “but in the end, Wheatland made more plays than we did and had more timely stops than we did. The cross country team kept up its speed last Thursday at the Warrior Invite in Worland, with three high school girls making the top 10. McKenna Bomengen placed third with 20:22, Olivia Weyer placed seventh with 20:56 and Tahja Hunt placed 10th with 21:09. The Wyoming High School Athletics Association recently released the 2017 Class of All State participants in high school golf. For the fourth year in a row, Bobcat Hudson Roling has been named to the All State team. As a freshman in 2014, Roling placed fourth in 2A, making him one of the top ten who received All State honors after playing in Worland. In 2015, Roling placed third at state in Wright, again in the 2A classification. Last year, Roling brought home not only All State but a first place in the state competition in Powell. It was also...
Part of Homecoming week for the Bobcats is the cross country team’s home meet on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. at the golf course. This year, the community is invited to be part of the festivities with the “Always a Bobcat” race that will be held in conjunction with the cross country meet. Thermopolis high school golf spent Thursday and Friday in Douglas rounding out their season at the State 3A Championships. The week didn't start well according to coach Jacob Smith. Bobcat Football will have their first game of the 2A conference when they head to Wheatland this Friday, after a 12-0 loss against Lander Sept. 15. Of the Lander game, Coach Matt McPhie said the Bobcats seemed to struggle everywhere. Watching film from the game, he said, there’s a lot of areas the boys could do better. Adult volleyball through the Hot Springs County Recreation District kicked off on Wednesday with the first games between Moderately Knowledgeable and Owl Creek Graphics and KSA vs Gassed by Gottsche. The Lady Bobcat volleyball team traveled to Rawlins last Friday and Saturday for the Rawlins Invitational, starting the weekend against Star Valley, Torrington and Cody in pool play. Although they went 0-8 in pool play on Friday, coach Shannon Hill started some new rotations as the girls headed into the silver bracket on Saturday.
