The middle school girl's basketball team is off to a good start this season under head coach Ginger Ward. The Hot Springs County High School Football team had a difficult time against Newcastle last weekend, losing to the Dogies 48-12. Coach Matt McPhie said the boys didn’t play great, but did do some things well. The Hot Springs County Cross Country team capped off its season last Saturday with a sixth place girls team finish at the State Championships in Sheridan. Coach Stephanie Metz said the meet was on a fairly windy day, and not the conditions they wanted to run in, though they still did well and had a celebratory season. Middle school volleyball wrapped up their season recently, finishing with a 2-12 record for the year. "This record does not reflect our accomplishments this season," said eighth grade head coach Aimee Kay. "They really gained a sense of the game at a higher level." Girls basketball through the Hot Springs County Recreation District kicks off next week with the first practices starting on Monday. Kindergarteners through second graders will be in one group, practicing on Mondays and Thursdays at Ralph Witters Elementary (RWE) gym at 6 p.m. There are about 17 girls in this age group who will be learning the ropes. The cross country runners had some difficulty last Friday at the 3A East Regional Meet at the golf course. Coach Stephanie Metz said the Bobcats had some bad times, but so did the other teams. Hot Springs County Football raised their record to 3-4 for the season with a 24-20 win over Burns Friday night. Coach Matt McPhie said, “Our boys got a good road win on Friday night. We battled some injuries and adversity but stayed the course, and fought it out.” On offense, McPhie said, the team was led by Logan Cole, Jon Harvey, and Cullen Becher. On Saturday, the Thermopolis Middle School Bobcats took a 44-28 win against Greybull, capping off a perfect 7-0 season. Last weekend saw the National Barrel Horse Association state competition in Rock Springs. Several people from Wyoming District 3, which includes Park County and the Big Horn Basin competed. The Wyoming High School Athletics Association recently released the 2017 Class of All State participants in high school golf. For the fourth year in a row, Bobcat Hudson Roling has been named to the All State team. As a freshman in 2014, Roling placed fourth in 2A, making him one of the top ten who received All State honors after playing in Worland.
