Christmas came early for the Bobcat wrestlers this year at Worland's "Battle in the Big Horns" tournament when they won their way to the Silver Bracket Championship with three dual victories on Saturday after Friday's tough bracket draws against powerhouses Douglas and Sheridan. This was a great finish for the week which started with a thrashing of Greybull on Thursday who could only furnish enough varsity wrestlers for six matches, and lost four of those. A Bobcat that had a memorable night...
Thermopolis Boys Basketball got off to a rough start this past weekend, with three losses at the East-West Classic at Douglas, 65-38 against Lander, 59-42 against Lovell and 74-45 against Riverton. As for the Lander game, which was the boys’ first for the season Coach Kevin Gerber said he felt good about the defensive focus they went into the season with, a focus for the first three weeks. He noted they went from being zone defense last year to man-to-man defense this year and he felt good a...
It was a rough pair of days for the Lady Bobcat basketball team this weekend as they dropped games to Riverton, Lovell and Lander. Friday’s game against Riverton saw the Lady Cats struggling a bit with a 30-53 loss. Coach Cory Sova said Riverton simply shot the ball much better and had nine more offensive rebounds. Having 11 shots blocked or at least deflected didn’t help, either. “It was our worst outing of the year,” Sova said, “and we could get no rhythm or momentum.” McKenna Bomengen ha...
Bobcat wrestlers journeyed to Powell for their first competition of the season with a lot of questions to be answered. This young team answered them in the most positive way possible. With some 22 teams competing, they brought home two varsity championships and one JV championship, they amassed 32 victories out of 54 matches with 32 of those wins by way of pins, and they became a team supporting each other in this most individual sport of all. Two years ago, junior Austin Ireland competed at...
This year, the freshman basketball team will only compete in five games. Coach Ryan Shaffer noted there are only three freshmen out this year — Jesse Skelton, Eli Dickey and James Lindquist — so any time there is a freshman/JV/Varsity game scheduled they can’t play the freshman game because they would be short quarters for everyone else. For the first freshman game on Thursday, Dec. 14 at Lovell, Shaffer said the plan is to take the freshmen and the sophomores which will give them 10 playe...
