In response to the “Streambank Erosion Project questioned” letter to the editor in the July 15, 2021, Independent Record, I would like to clarify some points. All Hot Spring Conservation District and NRCS projects are brought to the two organizations by the landowner and 100% voluntary. The landowner comes to us with a problem and we try our best to help them. As the closest neighbor to the actual Streambank Erosion Project along the Bighorn River I am surprised at the misinformation that was provided during the Natural Resource Tour regarding this project. Fact, Weed and Pest removed the Russian Olives along the outer bank of an oxbow in the river. Fact, yes the bank without the protection of vegetation began to immediately erode. I would like to address a growing issue related to recreational target shooting on public land. Shooters need to clean up their targets, empty brass, shotshell hulls, food and beverage containers, etc. If you have time to pack it in, you should also have time to pack it out. Also, never ever shoot glass targets unless you are on your own private land. Broken glass can injure humans, pets, livestock and wildlife not to mention flattening tires. The proposed road tax, HB 37, provides me the opportunity to rant a bit about my observations of wasteful DOT operations. As a long-time user of Wyoming’s roads, I have had many glimpses of the DOT in action. But first I would like to pass along a compliment. That stretch of State Route 120 south of Cody was in bad shape and very uncomfortable to drive on. DOT got around to repaving it and now the road is a pleasure to drive on. Thanks!
