    Suzanne Samelson, President of Main Street Thermopolis, and her husband Howie, board member, presented their quarterly report to both the Hot Springs County Commissioners and to the Thermopolis Town Council on June 20 at their respective meetings. Howie started their report by discussing their attendance at the conference in Boston, the Best Practices Tour, which featured four Main Street communities: Biddeford, Brunswick, Bath, and Lisbon in Maine.   • High water at Boysen causes temporary closures of a limited number of areas

    High water in Boysen Reservoir has caused flooding in areas and prompted park officials to temporarily close a small number of campsites and day-use areas. Portions of Tough Creek and Tamarask campgrounds have been affected by the flooding but other campgrounds remain open. Park staff have notified those with reservations affected by the flooding and relocated them to other campgrounds or canceled if necessary.     The Big Springs FFA Chapter is hosting a Freedom for All 5K run with obstacles on Saturday, July 1 at the south end of Hot Springs County Fairgrounds.     Although the weather has not been favorable, the identification and control of mosquito breeding sites (water sources) is successfully underway. Hot Springs County Weed and Pest has treated areas in Kirby, Lucerne, Owl Creek and other areas. They have started setting up adult traps, to determine areas to be fogged. Fogging operations are based on weather and adult mosquito counts per area surveyed.     A rainy and cold start to the 2023 Annual Hot Springs County 4-H Shooting Sports Camp did not stop all the participants from having fun.
