  • Structure fire results in minimal damage to shop

    At approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday September 17, the Thermopolis Fire Department was dispatched to Buffalo Creek Road for a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived to find a two-vehicle garage/shop with active fire in the roof rafters. Firefighters attacked and quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of this fire. Firefighters responded to the scene with 4 units: two engines, one water tender, and a rescue truck.     Hot Springs County junior in high school Jay Ritchey, 16, has donated 175 pounds of pork to the Senior Center as part of the Fair to Fork program. According to No Hunger Wyoming, different youth from various countries have participated in Wyoming Hunger Initiative's Fair to Fork Program.     Hot Springs County Senior Center is hosting a full schedule of events this fall. The center is located at 206 Senior Avenue. For more information on these events, contact the center at 864-2151. Dance classes have started and are being held on Fridays from 1-1:30 p.m. A cribbage tournament is planned for October 5 at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $25. Call the center to sign up.     Members of the community are invited to a meeting on September 23 at 6 p.m. at the Hot Springs County Fair Building, 627 Springview, to discuss the possibility of having a community center built in Thermopolis on Hot Springs State Park property.     Vicklund Pharmacy’s name is changing to Hot Springs Pharmacy. Vicklund Pharmacy was established in 1987 by Carol Vickund Bivens and current owner Tony Deromedi purchased the pharmacy in 2014 after he worked for Bivens from 2004 until 2014.     Shawn Mohr is the new Public Health Director in Hot Springs County starting August 5. The previous director Tricia McPhie resigned earlier this summer. Mohr said he is "getting settled and figuring out where things are at and getting my schedule going."     Following a wind event the tore through downtown Thermopolis on Monday afternoon, a lightning strike started a fire in the Warm Springs area southeast of Thermopolis.
